Tips for At Home Math

Image
Dear Parents and Guardians,  As we start the year and are including math more and more in our daily routine I wanted to share an article that provides a list of how to bring math home with your child. This is not a requirement, but I would highly encourage taking the time to incorporate these tips into your daily routines to help them succeed in math.  10 Tips to Boost Third Grade Math Skills These tips including bringing math to the dinner table and talking about portioning when it comes to eating. Encouraging them to problem solve in their daily routines instead of always just telling them what to do can help to improve their mathematical processing skills. I would encourage you to read through this short article.  If you have any further questions or additional tips please do not hesitate to reach out.  Thank you,  Ms. DiMichele

Classroom Layout

Hello Parents and Guardians,  I have attached the layout of our classroom onto the blog post to give you some visuals of what our classroom looks like. This can help provide some insight as well to you about what is going on in our classroom and how we run through activities each day.  The students are set up into one of four groups where they will sit when we are working through formal lessons together as a class. These groupings will also double as stations for their play-based learning, these stations being; water, environment, collaboration and practical areas where they can explore real-life scenarios. The water station allows them to work with different textiles to work with and watch how various toys can change the way water flows as well as displacement areas. The plant on the desks signifies the importance of the environment inside the classroom to ensure that we are stewards of the community inside and outside of the classroom. As you may see there are plants ...

Daily Schedule

Weekly Schedule Dear Parents and Guardians,  As our first couple of weeks of school have started and our class is getting more organized I wanted to reach out to share with you a copy of our typical week here in Ms. DiMichele’s Grade 2 Class.  Each day we start the class with a classroom circle as well as mindfulness; meaning the students each come in and get to interact with their peers, adjust to being back in the classroom and taking a couple of minutes to reflect on themselves. We will take this time to reflect on their emotions; the emotions they are bringing into the classroom, what they want to learn today and how they feel about that as well as how they want to leave the classroom that day. I find that this helps the students learn self-regulation and can connect with their emotions first thing in the morning so they are reminded to check in with themselves throughout the day.  Next, we move into literacy stations or shared reading (language focused), where...

Welcome!

Dear Parents and Guardians,  My name is Kaileigh DiMichele and I am writing to you to introduce myself as your child’s teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. I am so excited to be back at school and looking forward to a great year ahead. I am confident your child, their peers and I will work together to foster an amazing environment that will help your child learn, succeed and grow.  To start off I wanted to share a little bit of background on myself and where I have come from educationally. I went to Brock University to complete my Bachelors of Science degree (Math) and then moved on to teachers college at Brock as well.  One of my many goals for this year is to create an environment that fosters a sense of community, friendship and inclusivity so that each child has the ability to learn effectively and efficiently. I want your child to be able to explore their own way of learning with peers who support and encourage them. Helping students support one another is an...
