Classroom Layout
Hello Parents and Guardians,
I have attached the layout of our classroom onto the blog post to give you some visuals of what our classroom looks like. This can help provide some insight as well to you about what is going on in our classroom and how we run through activities each day.
The students are set up into one of four groups where they will sit when we are working through formal lessons together as a class. These groupings will also double as stations for their play-based learning, these stations being; water, environment, collaboration and practical areas where they can explore real-life scenarios. The water station allows them to work with different textiles to work with and watch how various toys can change the way water flows as well as displacement areas. The plant on the desks signifies the importance of the environment inside the classroom to ensure that we are stewards of the community inside and outside of the classroom. As you may see there are plants around the classroom, so with these students will be responsible for taking care of them and ensuring there is enough water, soil and the dead plants are trimmed. This can help to ensure that they have a piece of responsibility within the classroom.
The classroom also has a carpeted area for when we are doing our mindfulness, our read-out time as well as opening exercises. This allows the students a different scenery to help them learn in various aspects of the classroom. With this area, students can also use it as a place to self-regulate when they are feeling emotions too big for their bodies and can ensure they have a safe space to go.
Lastly, beside my desk we have a cabinet where all their notebooks, materials and anything else they need in the classroom will go in a labelled folder holder. This can help keep the clean, neat and tidy by having the students not using the inside of their desks. I can also ensure that it is kept neat as it is near my desk.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you,
Ms. DiMichele
